" Frequent engagement with a product can create a new user habit. " - Nir Eyal, author of HOOKED

We then asked the question:

How can we create a habit-forming product?

Hook Model is the key!

We used Hook Model, a design pattern that drive user engagement in order to connect user’s problem to designer’s solution.

We connected user's experience in movie theaters to our application so that we kept users in the hooked cycle and increased platform's exposure.

Turn on the volume to learn how the design works.

Applying Hook Model into our design

Trigger

  • A prompting message showing on user's devices after they finish watching a movie can be an external trigger that intrigues users to interact with NetflixShow.

We capture customer interest in a movie when they are most engaged.

  • Internal trigger is an emotional feeling that's encoded in user's memory.

When do users unconsciously open NetflixShow?

When they want to buy or preorder movie tickets.

When they want to follow the latest news about their favorite actor or actress.

Action

The triggers mentioned above then increase the likelihood of actions occurring such as watching movie trailers, browsing movie information, buying or preordering movie tickets, following actors or directors up-to-date status, leaving reviews, claiming rewards and sharing movie tickets to friends.

Variable Reward

Rewards are things that can catch user's attention and stimulate them to keep using our NetflixShow app.

They might be craving free snacks, free food, or free movie tickets.

Investment

As users devote more time and money to using the NetflixShow app, this restarts the Hook cycle again and again.

1

Time investment creates personalization of the content on home page, which displays user preference towards certain movies and TV shows.

2

Time investment creates

better suggestions for which actor/actress or director to follow.

3

Money investment through ShowPass subscription creates an option to access cheaper movie tickets.
