Overview

This mobile application MovieZone is a social platform for movie lovers to share their favorite movies with their friends or other individuals who have the same movie preference.

MovieZone provides a chance for users to extend their social networks by sharing comments of a movie, adding to a group that has the same movie taste, or making new friends who have the same movie preference and meet them in person.

Feature 1: Leave a comment and give rating for a movie

This boosts an ongoing conversation for movie lovers to expand connections through discussion.

Feature 2: Add friends via automatic friends recommendation

This creates a reciprocal relationship for users to build a social network based on trust.

Feature 3: Create a group for people who have the same movie preference

This brings social connection much closer for people who are into a certain movie genre.

Feature 4: Initiate movie meetups and send out invitations to friends

This gathers people together in the real world.

Usability Test

I conducted two rounds of usability test for MovieZone application with three participants, 1 male and 2 females between the age of 23-28.

Based on the test result, two participants successfully completed all the tasks. One participant failed in task 2, which is adding friends. Other participants also spent longer time completing task 2.

Problem 1: Users had problem adding friends and the main problem was that they had an identity issue that they couldn’t make sure the person was the one they really knew or just with the same name.

Solution 1: Showed user photos to confirm user identity. Also, added a pop-out notification to reduce accidental errors.

Problem 2: Although all the participants successfully completed the task to create an event for inviting friends to join a movie event, it took them longer time to locate the right targets. The tab name "dating" might be confusing.

Solution 2: Renamed the "Dating" tab as "Event" tab.

Added find movies in the search bar. Extended the tap region for leaving a comment.

Change 4

Made the comment icon and user icon responsive, which allowed users to leave comments and keep the conversation going.
